Katherian Roe, Keynote Speaker

As the Federal Defender for the District of Minnesota, Katherian Roe oversees the essential work of providing high quality representation to individuals charged with federal crimes. Since her appointment in 2006 she has pioneered structural improvements to the federal defense system through service on national commissions, prioritization of professional development for young attorneys, and ensuring that clients feel respected and understood.
Ms. Roe is a veteran of the Minnesota legal community, having served as a Judge in Hennepin County from 2002–2006, and an Assistant Federal Defender in the office she now leads from 1989–2002. Her legal career was inspired by the lack of Native American lawyers representing the 1973 Wounded Knee occupation defendants, and she has dedicated herself to shaping a more representative federal criminal bar.
Jevon Bindman, Wallace-Lerner Excellence in Leadership Award Recipient

He has established himself as a thought leader in the Minnesota legal community, co-authoring four volumes of the Minnesota Practice Series—the seminal treatise on Minnesota law and procedure. Jevon also believes firmly in the importance of pro bono service. He is the chair of Maslon’s pro bono committee and recently obtained a pardon due to actual innocence for Sherman Townsend, who was incarcerated in 1998 for a crime he did not commit.
